Today's the Day: Kitchens by the Sea in Bay Head, New Jersey

In a few minutes, London and Maddie's babysitter will arrive, and Rex and I will head out to Kitchens by the Sea, an amazing day of peeking into our neighbors' kitchens and enjoying delicious food samples provided by local Jersey Shore restaurants and caterers. This year's participating restaurants include:

  • Rock'n'Joe's
  • Scone Shoppe
  • Miletto's
  • Bay Head Chocolate Shoppe
  • Labrador Lounge
  • Martell's
  • Theresa's South
  • Shore Fresh Seafood
  • Brandl; and
  • Joe Leone

Each of the homes, spread out through Bay Head and Mantoloking, will feature an excellent local restauranteur or caterer serving samples of their cuisine. In addition, the dining areas of the homes will showcase table settings and floral arrangements provided by local designers.

All proceeds benefit the Bay Head School Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Please call 732-714-1902 for more information.

Tickets are $50 (with limited availability, as this is a very popular event) "at the door" today, the day of the kitchen tour, at Bay Head School, 145 Grove Street in Bay Head, where your information packet and tour map will be distributed.

As you head out on the tour, be sure to stop in to visit the local Bay Head merchants...many of the shops, including the Anchor & Palette Gallery on Mount Street, are offering special discounts to kitchen tour participants.

Bay Head NJ School Foundation Presents...Kitchens by the Sea: Saturday, September 26, 2009

Every other year, the Bay Head School Foundation puts on Kitchens by the Sea, an amazing day of peeking into our neighbors' kitchens and enjoying delicious food samples provided by local Jersey Shore restaurants and caterers. This year, the event falls when Rex and I will be spending a three day weekend with our girls in Bay Head, celebrating our eleventh wedding anniversary. As my loyal readers know, Rex and I were married on the beach in Bay Head in September 1998.... and yes, Roxy did wear a white bikini.

Each of the homes, spread out through Bay Head and Mantoloking, will feature an excellent local restauranteur or caterer serving samples of their cuisine. In addition, the dining areas of the homes will showcase table settings and floral arrangements provided by local designers.

Support the Bay Head School Foundation

As my loyal Bay Head Blog and Roxy's Best Of... readers know, our family summers at the beach in Bay Head, New Jersey, but our full time home (where London and Maddie go to school) is up north in Mendham Township. If you do live down at the beach all year round, however, please consider a tax deductible donation before the end of the year 2008 to support the Bay Head School Foundation. Rex and I received the following letter that I'd like to share with you:

Dear Friends of the Bay Head Community:

We are appealing to you in this, our annual letter, for funds to continue the Bay Head School Foundation's mission of supporting Bay Head School in its efforts to maintain the tremendous quality of its curriculum and the way in which it is delivered.

The Bay Head School Foundation was founded when Bay Head School had to scale back as the budget could no longer meet all curriculum and facility needs to maintain the program level desired for the Bay Head School children. Three years ago, the voters approved a referendum making it possible for the district to bring our facility forward to meet the State mandated standards. The same year, the Bay Head School Board launched a new organizational structure including sharing services. We entered an inter-local agreement with Point Pleasant Beach to share their Superintendent with Bay Head School, which has become an example for the future in other districts.

Rex and I love to participate in these events, and we'll usually bring along his mom and get a teenage babysitter to keep London and Maddie entertained...last year, the Bay Head School Foundation hosted a kitchen tour, with a taste of more than ten local area restaurants served up in Bay Head and Mantoloking kitchens.

This year, we'll miss the Bay Head Historical Society House Tour, since we're headed away to Duck, North Carolina for a long weekend. Why don't you go and tell us all about it?
